Off and running

It’s the New Year and everyone is taking a stab at their goals and resolutions. I am part of this crowd, whether I like it or not!

While I’m not posting on social media (I haven’t made socials for this blog quite yet) like my friends are posting about their Peloton rides (ugh…), this blog is still a way to hold me accountable for achieving my goals publicly. This blog also provides me a way to process what I am doing, and most importantly the why behind it.

I was cleaning up our Christmas decorations today and put a book away in our tiny bookshelf and saw a book that caught my eye. It was Simon Sinek’s “Start With Why” which was written after the success of his wildly popular Ted Talk. I need to take some time and read this book. I’m glad I came across it today. When we moved in the Fall of ’21 we put a lot of our books into storage, leaving us with a fraction of our library (although my one year old son’s book collection keeps growing hehe).

I am currently working on the Google IT Support Specialist certification and I after I finish with the second course (Bits and Bytes of Computer Networking) I am going to take a break and start working on my real goal, to become a cloud native developer. I already know web development but I want to niche down to focus on cloud technologies and computing. Coursera also has great courses on that through IBM.

Why Coursera you ask? Something about how they have modules set up really enforces my learning. I watch the videos and read the transcript at the same time and then take the quizzes right after to test my knowledge. It’s the perfect loop of learning: see, hear/read, do, and repeat.

I hope you are off and running on your goals but I also hope you aren’t putting too much pressure on yourself. I’ll talk about that next blog because I get easily overwhelmed sometimes and need to focus on taking small bytes (see what I did there)!
